I have a handful of passions and interests that I hope will guide my instruction as a teacher:

Sports:

Throughout my elementary and high school years, sports were a huge part of my life. I played league sports like soccer and field hockey, and competed in gymnastics. I also played on my high school basketball and field hockey teams, and competed on the track and field team. Now that I am older, I have become interested in outdoor adventure sports like hiking, kayaking, surfing, and snowboarding.

Coaching:

I have had a variety of coaching experiences in my community. For about three years, while I was in high school, I coached recreational gymnastics to elementary school-aged children. While I was in Grade 12,  I also coached the Richmond U15 (Grade 9) field hockey team in the Vancouver area’s girls community field hockey league. I found coaching two different sports, and multiple age ranges, a great experience because I had the opportunity to adapt and change my coaching style to suit different ages and situations.

Travel:

One of my biggest passions is traveling. Since graduating from high school, I have been able to travel to 16 different countries! I love learning about different places, cultures, and people. As a teacher, I hope to be able to share my love of travel with my students by creating a classroom of diversity, by teaching about different countries and cultures, and by creating a space for everybody in the classroom to feel welcome.

The Outdoors:

Outdoor education is something that I am passionate about. Working in outdoor education centres in both North Vancouver and New Zealand has given me the opportunity to instruct and educate children about nature, animals, and the environment. My jobs allowed me to take children on some awesome outdoor adventures like rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, and canoeing. I love and care for the environment and hope that I will be able to bring this love into my classroom by creating lessons and activities that combine outdoor education with the BC Curriculum for Elementary School Students.
