Learning these songs has been both difficult and rewarding. I loved learning the songs and being able to play them correctly, but learning the strumming patterns and how to change from one chord to the next was difficult. I began my music journey by learning each chord separately first, then adding them together, faster and faster, eventually making the song sound like it should. Next, I learned the strumming pattern and then put the two parts together. The most difficult part of the journey was the accuracy and precision it took to place my fingers in the correct position to accurately play the chords and make them sound good. While learning the songs, I would often place my fingers on the wrong strings and the chords would sound terrible. Learning the ukulele definitely helped improve my fine motor skills as I moved my fingers to the correct placement on the strings. In addition, playing chords with one hand, while playing a strumming pattern with the other, really helped me learn to multitask too. I feel very proud of myself that I can now play two songs on the ukulele, not perfectly. but pretty well. I learned to do this and I learned a brand new skill that I can incorporate into my teaching practice and into other aspects of my life too. I feel very accomplished.
